💡 Good to know: Mobile Email Tracking is currently available on iOS only.
It is most likely to work with email providers that support standard IMAP/SMTP access with username-and-password authentication, such as GMX, web.de, and T-Online.
Support may be limited or unavailable for providers that use OAuth, proprietary synchronization methods, or enforced outgoing mail servers, such as Gmail, Microsoft, iCloud, and Yahoo/AOL.
💡 Good to know: Compatibility may vary depending on your email provider, as not every account type has been tested.
Step 1: Create an account-specific password
Enter the credentials for the email account you want to use for Mobile Email Tracking.
Once the setup is complete, Mailbutler creates an account-specific password.
You will also receive the account-specific password by email.
💡 Good to know: Keep the account-specific password handy. You will need it when setting up Mailbutler's outgoing mail server on your iPhone or iPad.
Step 2: Add your email account to your iPhone or iPad
Open Settings.
Go to Apps → Mail → Mail Accounts.
At the bottom of the list, select Add Account → Other → Add Mail Account.
Enter your email address and your email account password or app-specific password.
Step 3: Set up Mailbutler as your outgoing mail server
In Settings → Apps → Mail → Mail Accounts, select the email account you want to use.
Select Account Settings → SMTP.
Select the current Primary Server.
Turn off Server.
Go back, scroll down, and select Add Server…
Enter the following information:
➤ Host Name: smtp.mailbutler.io
➤ Username: your Mailbutler account email address
➤ Password: the account-specific password you created in Step 1
Make sure the server settings show:
➤ Server: On
➤ Use SSL: On
➤ Authentication: Password
➤ Server Port: 587
6. Select Done.
Step 4: Send a test email
Open the Mail app on your iPhone or iPad.
Send an email from the account you just configured to a test recipient.
Have the recipient open the email.
Check the sent message in Mailbutler's Emails tab to confirm that it was tracked.
✅ That's it! You can now track emails sent from the configured account in the Mail app on your iPhone or iPad.
Troubleshooting
My password is rejected when I add the SMTP Service
My password is rejected when I add the SMTP Service
Check whether your email provider requires an app-specific password.
Also make sure IMAP access is enabled if your provider requires it when using third-party email apps.
I see “Cannot Send Mail: The connection to the outgoing server ‘smtp.mailbutler.io’ failed.”
I see “Cannot Send Mail: The connection to the outgoing server ‘smtp.mailbutler.io’ failed.”
Open the SMTP settings and make sure you are using the latest account-specific password connected to your email account.
Try entering the account-specific password again and save the server settings.
If the credentials are correct but the connection still fails, remove the email account from your iPhone or iPad, restart the device, add the account again, and then configure smtp.mailbutler.io again.

Your email account's original SMTP server may still be active alongside Mailbutler's SMTP server.
Go to:
Settings → Apps → Mail → Mail Accounts → [your account] → Account Settings → SMTP
Make sure the original SMTP server is turned off and Mailbutler's SMTP server is turned on.
