What is Google Advanced Protection and how does it affect Mailbutler?
Google Advanced Protection is a program which safeguards your Google account against targeted online attacks. It stops all third-party apps and services, such as Mailbutler, from accessing data such as your Google Drive and Gmail data.
However, to be able to use Mailbutler for Gmail, you need to allow Mailbutler to access your Gmail data.
How can I tell if my account has Google Advanced Protection enabled?
If you receive an error message similar to admin_policy_enforced
when trying to integrate Mailbutler into your Gmail account in Google Workspace, it means you or your Google Workspace administrator has set up Google Advanced Protection for your account.
How can I allow Mailbutler to access my Gmail data?
If you are using a Google Workspace account with Google Advanced Protection, you need to explicitly allow Mailbutler access to your Gmail data.
In order to allow Mailbutler to access your Gmail data, you or the administrator of your Google Workspace domain has to whitelist Mailbutler in the OAuth app of a Google Workspace domain. To do this, you/the administrator need/s to head to: https://admin.google.com/AdminHome?chromeless=1#OGX:ManageOauthClients
and add Mailbutler's unique APP ID:286484897993-k53m0622cdbc3b563fkrq5ig0d4gnhpf.apps.googleusercontent.com
with the following scopes:
- https://www.googleapis.com/auth/userinfo.profile
- https://mail.google.com/
You can read more about how to control which third-party and internal apps can access Google Workspace data in this official article from Google.
